Provenance: Asahel Bowers (ownership inscription "Asahel Bowers Book" to interior front cover and stamped "Asahel Bowers 1830" to title page. 

 

An account of a surgeon aboard an American privateer during the War of 1812. Contains fascinating descriptions, anecdotes, and remarks about the War, including the ship's capture at sea by the HMS Tenedos, helmed by Captain Hyde Parker (1784-1854), and his confinement, both on board a prison ship and ashore, first in Halifax at Melville Island, then in England at Chatham and later Dartmoor Prison.
