The "Great Storm of 1900," the hurricane that destroyed Galveston on 8 September 1900, was a catastrophic event that resulted in approximately 8,000 fatalities. The storm also destroyed about 7,000 buildings in Galveston and left approximately 10,000 people in the city homeless. Publishers such as Underwood & Underwood and Keystone View Company produced stereoview collections documenting the disaster, and thereby giving Americans an immersive, 3D look at the unimaginable devastation.
