A collection of 10 stereoviews, ca. 1866-83. On a mix of orange, yellow and tan card mounts. Some feature period inscriptions identifying who is in the photograph.
Six feature the backmark of Henry A. Doerr (1822-85), a prolific photographer based in the Alamo City. Doerr, originally born in Prussia, arrived in San Antonio around 1865 and immediately began taking photographs, first with two different partners within a year of each other and then by himself around 1867. He continued to work alone and with others over the next 20 years until his passing, capturing both studio portraits and outdoor scenes.
The images in this lot are as follows:
1. Mexican Caballero. A man sits in a traditional poncho and sombrero on a white horse, with another man kneeling to the right of the horse.
2. Market boy. A young boy stands next to a small cart being pulled by a mule. It appears there is another person behind the cart, but their face has been blurred out.
3. Mexican Candy Seller — San Antonio, Texas. A man sits and balances a large tray full of homemade candy on his lap. The modern inscription to the mount verso first identified this image as being shot by Doerr, but that has been crossed out and replaced with "LATOURETTE."
4. Texan Boy / Cow Boy. Doerr's imprint to mount verso.
A cowboy sits on a saddled horse, complete with hat and spurs on his boots.
5. Mexican - Bird Seller - San Antonio 1878 - Texas. Three people pose with bird cages in front of a studio backdrop. A small boy grabs onto the skirts of the woman standing in the center, while a second woman sits on the right with a bored look on her face. This view has been attributed to Doerr, but there is no backmark.
6. View of a young woman sitting inside what appears to be a residence. Doerr's backmark present on the mount verso. The woman sits in a Windsor-style chair, with another chair to her left that holds something fluffy. Her prominent shadow can be seen behind the second chair.
7. Mexican Beggar. Series, "Views In and Around San Antonio." Doerr & Jacobson, photographers. A man sits barefoot on a mule in front of a window with a shade pulled down.
8. Mex. selling Wood. Doerr's backmark present on the mount verso. A large cart being drawn by three mules is parked in front of a restaurant. A man stands next to the mules, while more lean against the restaurant.
9. Military Plaza. Doerr's backmark present on the mount verso. A man with a tall hat stands in a plaza full of vendors selling produce.
10. View of a young boy on a burro. Doerr's backmark present on the mount verso. On either side of the boy on the burro are large bushels of alfalfa, forcing him to swing his legs in front of the bushels and opt out of using the stirrups.

Very good condition overall, displaying strong tones and good clarity throughout the scenes. Some light soiling mostly to the mounts.
