A master of late-twentieth-century Latin American Surrealism, Cuban-born painter Jorge Comacho is celebrated for his enigmatic compositions that merge organic forms with esoteric philosophy. He became a key figure in the post-war Surrealist circle after relocating to Paris in 1959, championed by André Breton for his visceral, haunting imagery. Drawing from pre-Columbian mythology, alchemy, and ornithology, Camacho’s works feature skeletal, chimeric figures, often set against rich, earth-toned landscapes.
