Reproduction of a Smith carbine. Half stock single-shot breech-loading black-powder percussion rifle. .50 caliber. Patent, manufacture, and reproduction marks on receiver and barrel. Catalog and serial number on receiver. Barrel approx. 20 1/4 in. Overall length approx. 38 3/4 in.

The receiver and hammer exhibit bluing, but the barrel and butt plate show a pleasing dark color. There is both an open front sight and a rear peep sight on the barrel. Several icons are stamped next to the hammer on the receiver, most likely icons relating to the reproducer. There are scratches and scuffs on the butt, but in no way does it impede the rifle's function. The bottom of the butt features a metal saddle point.

This reproduction was made by F. LLI Pietta, an Italian company that produced several Smith carbines in "Artillery" and "Cavalry" variations. Since this one has a saddle ring, it is probably the Cavalry version of the carbine. While the company still makes reproductions of other guns, it seemingly stopped producing versions of the Smith carbine in 2024.
