On orange cardstock mounts with view titles, and series title "1861-1865 The War for the Union /Photographic History" printed to mount recto. Publishers' statement, description to mount verso.

1. No. 2296 "Slave Pen, Alexandria, Va." A Stereoview depicting the exterior of a slave pen, as indicated by the storefronts' signage, guarded by armed soldiers in front. The facade of the building reads as follows: 'Price, Birch, & Co. /Dealers in Slaves'. Accompanying the men is a wagon drawn by a single horse. The publisher's description on verso reads as: "Exterior view of the famous, or rather infamous slave pen. People of this generation can hardly make it seem possible that such an "institution" was ever tolerated under the stars and stripes, in this "land of the free." Read the inscription on that sign over the door: 'Price, Birch, & Co., Dealers in Slaves.'"

2. No. 2594 "A Group of 'Contrabands'."Stereoview depicting seven Black men standing in a line facing the camera. The men wear a variety of uniforms and hats. They stand in front of a large wagon with wheels visible. Publisher's description on verso reads as: "The negroes who ran away from slavery and came into the Union lines, were employed by the Government as teamsters, laborers, &c. They were happy, good-natured fellows, and made lots of fun for the soldiers. This is a characteristic group of the 'contrabands' as they were called, standing in front of their rough-built shanty to have their pictures taken."
