A fascinating work issued during the 1860 Presidential Campaign by northern Republicans to frame their candidate, Abraham Lincoln, as an originalist who was aligned with the Founding Fathers. Chase includes writings, speeches, debates, and policy regarding slave labor from luminaries including Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, John Adams, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and John Quincy Adams.
