Manuscript document signed by Thomas J. Shelton and Hugh H. Fallin. Witnessed by John G. Mills. N.p., 1 January 1849. 1 page, 7 3/8 x 7 3/4 in. Docketed to verso. 

 

A slave hire document for the "hire of a negro boy named Charles for the present year" for $50. Notably, the document specifies that Charles was "to be treated humanely and clothed as usual for hired negroes - good hat, blanket &c."
