A receipt made out to W. Meador, a slave owner for the use of his slave Bob "for work on fortifications at and near this city.

 

A William Meader of Cumberland, Virginia, is listed in the 1860 Federal Slave Schedule as enslaving 7 individuals, including two men ages 21 and 35. Perhaps one of these men was Bob.
