A collection of twenty-four (24) scarce pamphlets and government publications related to the issue of Kansas Statehood and the Bleeding Kansas affair. Includes 1 duplicate (see #8).

Notably, the collection includes the first edition and the New York Tribune edition of Charles Sumner's famous "The Crime Against Kansas" speech (see #18 & 19). Given at the height of the Crisis, he was attacked two days later in the Senate chamber by South Carolina representative Preston Brooks in response. The incident highlighted increasing polarization between the North and South over the issue of slavery, and is considered a catalytic event leading to the outbreak of the Civil War.

The collection includes other prominent figures, including President Franklin Pierce, Senator William H. Seward (Lincoln's future Secretary of State), future Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens (writing as Senator from Georgia), Senator Stephen Douglas, Senator Edward Everett of Massachusetts, Lewis Cass, and 1860 presidential candidate John C.
