.54 caliber. 8.5" barrel secured by a single double strapped barrel band with Wickham's stud. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, smooth walnut stock. Single shot smoothbore muzzleloading flintlock pistol made without a rear sight, with a brass blade front sight, with a wood ramrod with sheet iron jag at the end. Lock with two-line "S. NORTH" cartouche and "MIDLTN CONN." around a {Spread Winged Eagle}. Lock appears to be in original flint with well fit internal parts but an old replaced mainspring and the original mainspring screw broken off in the lock plate. Barrel with an oversized touchhole with the shadow of a circle on the flat, drilled straight through without any taper or angle, suggesting the barrel had a drum conversion at some point in time. The pistol appears to be a very high quality reconversion to flint, possibly using an original flint lock, based upon the condition of the barrel. Barrel marked "P / US" at the breech and stamped with individual dies on the top of the barrel with what appears to read: "COND. G. HA. T.T. B 4TH D." Stamps are not well applied with the first few letters double stamped and most stamped along the curve of the barrel, leaving only the bottom part of the mark legible. An interestingly marked 1816 pistol that likely relates to a specific state or militia unit. {ANTIQUE}

Good. Bore dark and crusty with pitting. Metal cleaned to bright and now toning down with moderately scattered freckles of surface oxidation and discoloration with some scattered pitting. Markings mostly legible in the metal,  none noted in wood. Ramrod appears original. Mechanically functional lock. Wood with moderate wear, some minor rounding to the edges and scattered bumps, dings and mars.
