Partly engraved naval officer's commission signed by Theodore Roosevelt as President of the United States. Washington, D.C. 28 September 1901. 1 page, on vellum, with original blue wafer seal. Signed by Acting Secretary of the Navy Frank W. Hackett (1841-1926).

 

A Roosevelt-signed naval appointment for Joseph Fyffe (1874-1942) to Paymaster in the Navy with the rank of Lieutenant.

 

Fyffe was the son of Rear Admiral Joseph P. Fyffe (1832-1896) and would go on to serve as Fleet Paymaster on the staff of the Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet during World War I. (See Lot 301).
