Brass cartridge box plate bearing an encircled Royal Cipher beneath a crown. Approx. 1 15/16 x 2 7/8 in.
This box plate was excavated in Canada. The crown's connected fleur-de-lys and the slightly atypical and particular cypher variant seen at the plate's center are features shared with Butler's Rangers' box plates (see Lot 129). A firm regiment identification cannot be determined with certainty, however, as any inscription to the circular border has worn away.
An extremely rare loyalist box plate.
[American Revolutionary War, American Revolution, Founding Fathers, Declaration of Independence, Colonial America] [Relics, Militaria]
Overall fine condition. The brass presents a pleasing patina. There is some evident pitting, particularly to the reverse, and two of the three loops to the reverse are significantly worn.
