A rare Revolutionary War document issued by Massachusetts Treasurer Henry Gardner, Sr. to Matthew Goodin, the Tax Collector of Dighton, who was tasked with collecting 431 pounds, 3 pence, and 3 farthings.
Henry Gardner, Sr. (1731-1782) was first appointed treasurer in 1774 when it was still the Massachusetts Bay Colony. In 1780, he was appointed first treasurer and receiver general of the nascent State of Massachusetts. He served in the post until his death in 1782.
