Die Katze aus dem Sack gelassen! [The Cat's Out of the Bag!]
Printed "Parole de Woche" [Slogan of the Week] Wandzeitung wall newspaper
Munich, Germany
Zentralverlag der NSDAP
04 June 1941
Approx. 47 1/4 x 33 in.
A very rare Parole de Woche Wandzeitung [slogan of the week wall newspaper] issued by the Nazi Ministry of Propaganda agitating against the United States before they entered the War. Published by the Central Publishing House of the NSDAP, the wall newspapers with "slogans of the week" were hung and displayed in public places to be seen by a wide audience.
The poster features a picture of Frank Knox, the American Secretary of the Navy, with a quote that reads (in translation: "Even if Germany were defeated one day, 20 or 30 years later a new Hitler would attempt the same thing that Adolf Hitler did for his people six years after seizing power. This can only be prevented if we do not allow police control over Germany to slip from our grasp a second time!"
The poster, seizing upon the provocative quote, proclaims in response (in translation): "With this, it has finally been stated clearly and unequivocally that the henchmen of the British plutocracy intend the disenfranchisement and enslavement of the German people for all time. Mr. Knox can rest assured: the German people have not forgotten the deception perpetrated by an American president named Wilson and have learned a great deal from it, things of which Mr. Knox cannot possibly imagine. Confidentially, Mr. Knox: Adolf Hitler, moreover, will ensure that things turn out differently than you have planned, you can count on it!"
VERY RARE. We traced only 2 institutional copies, held at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (1995.96.126) and Universitatsbibliothek Regensburg (222 AP 17340 P257).
