A Nazi propaganda poster encouraging citizens to donate to the Winterhilfswerk (WHW) [Winter Relief of the German People]. A wounded soldier gazes directly at the viewer with the caption (in translation): "Perhaps you will meet someone who has sacrificed far more for Germany."

The Winterhilfswerk was an annual charity run by the National Socialist People's Welfare (NSV) from 1933 to 1945. The WHW replaced tax-funded welfare institutions, allowing the Nazi government to allocate more money for military spending. Credible evidence suggests that the money raised was personally controlled by Adolf Hitler, and at least part of the funds were also diverted to arms purchases.
