5.56x45. 18.25" barrel. SN: S17693. Parkerized finish with black painted receiver mounting black synthetic furniture, sidefolding butt, and AR-18/ARMALITE branded pistol grip. Short stroke piston driven rotating bolt gas operated rifle fed by detachable box magazines. Markings to left receiver read MFG. FOR/ARMALITE. INC./COSTA MESA. CALIF./U.S.A./BY/STERLING ENGLAND preceded by standard model and caliber markings. Item shows British firing proofs to major parts. Lacks magazine. Despite its American origins, the majority of original AR-180 production was carried out by Sterling in the UK between 1979 and 1985, with 12,362 of the 21,478 produced in total. Compared to the earlier production by ArmaLite, and particularly the guns by Howa, the Sterling examples are known for their crude finish. Though primarily sold in the United States, a number of these rifles were smuggled into Northern Ireland during "The Troubles", where they were used by the Provisional Irish Republican Army. {FFL}

Good to Very Good. Bore is Very Bright with sharp rifling throughout. Metal finish shows some scuffs on barrel, and pinpoint flaking on receiver. Some oxidized flecking inside of rear sight base and on hammer and bolt stop. Furniture shows handling wear, some casting imperfections typical of Sterling made guns, and scuffs possibly from the factory.
