"Grant / Wilson" paper campaign lantern. [1872].

A scarce campaign lantern from President Ulysses S. Grant's second term. Grant was unanimously re-nominated at the Republican National Convention, and Massachusetts Senator Henry Wilson was selected as his Vice Presidential nominee. They handily defeated opponent Horace Greely, who favored ending Reconstruction and called for civil service reform.

A delightful piece of campaign ephemera.

[Civil War, Union, Confederate] [Reconstruction, Politics]

Condition

Some tears. Original red faded to mauve.
