An interesting lot of four (4) early Nebraska stereoviews on original card mounts, primarily focused on early settlement. Views include:

1. [Pawnee City Opera House]. Series: Pawnee City Views. Outdoor albumen stereoview. Pawnee City, Nebraska: H. Ellis, circa 1882. Publisher's series identification to mount verso.

This crisp view shows the Pawnee City Opera House, a substantial two-story brick building with large arched windows and a central tower. The original opera house lacked a tower, but it was added after the devastating 1881 fire that destroyed two-thirds of Pawnee City.

2. No. 15. Barnum Hotel, Nebraska City, Nebraska. Outdoor albumen stereoview. Nebraska: N.p., [circa 1880s]. Period ink title/identification to mount recto.

A street view showing the Barnum House, identified by a large sign. The hotel is a commanding, three-story timber-frame building with wraparound two-story verandas and mansard-style rooflines.

The Barnum House had been in operation in Nebraska City from at least 1868, with the earliest mention in the Nebraska City News on 19 October 1868, reporting that new furniture was being made and that the hotel would be transferred to the possession of Messrs. Cleveland & Winn in December. The hotel evidently changed hands frequently. In 1882, the hotel had been closed and was reopening early in the year under the operations of Mr. John T. Mollyneaux (Nebraska City News Press, 2 January 1882, p. 4). The issues from 19 January 1884 reports that "Mr. Henry Brown, lessee of the Barnum house, last evening notified his creditors that he was unable to meet his indebtedness." The hotel continues to appear in the newspapers through the end of the 19th century.

3. Jim Harper on the Horse-Power Threshing Machine in Wheeler Co. Nebraska. Outdoor albumen stereoview. Ericson, Nebraska: John Nelson, 1907-1909. Publisher's imprint to mount recto and verso. Period ink title identification to mount verso.

A bustling agricultural view capturing an expansive horse team powering a sweep threshing rig across an open grassland field with field hands perched along the machinery.

4. O.M. Thayer's House & Shop on the Wahoo, Saunders Co. Neb. Outdoor view of a family gathered in front of a sod turf house and shop.  Lincoln, Nebraska: Cline's Photograph Rooms, [ca. 1870s]. Publisher's imprint to mount verso. Period pencil title identification with modern ink identification to mount verso.

This exceptional frontier view depicts an early turf-and-sod dwelling built directly into the open prairie landscape, with tools, wagon gear, and settlers posed outside the low entrance.

[Stereoview, Stereocard, Nebraska, Western Americana, Sod House, Soddie, Saunders County, Wahoo Creek, Blacksmith, Frontier Life, Wheeler County, Ericson Nebraska, John Nelson, Threshing Crew, Horse Power, Pawnee City, H. Ollis, 19th Century Photography]

Good to very good condition overall. The albumen prints retain strong tonal contrast and fine legibility, showing typical light edge toning, scattered surface spotting, and honest corner bumping to the card mounts consistent with age.
