Two stereoviews from Fort Randall, Dakota Territory, from the time of Sitting Bull's incarceration.
Each published by Bailey, Dix & Meade in 1882 at Fort Randall in Dakota Territory. The photographers created the series from views they took of Sitting Bull and his people the Hunkpapa Lakota, as well as the Minneconjou Lakota, and Nex Perce (Niimíipuu) who were held at Fort Randall in 1882.
View include:
1. No. 10. Woman's Rights. Fort Randall, Dakota Territory: Bailey, Dix & Mead, 1882.
The view shows two women sitting beside tipis, resting after carrying wood. The publisher editorializes the scene, titling it "Women's Rights" and commenting, "two squaws...resting after carrying wood seen beside them on their backs...for half a mile, while their leige lords and masters, (the noble red men,) are smoking.
2. No. 8. Winter Quarters. Fort Randall, Dakota Territory: Bailey, Dix & Mead, 1882.
A well-composed view of tipis of the winter quarters, described as "circular in form...situated in a beautiful grove of box elders, just under the hill at Fort Randall, and near the banks of the Missouri River."
