Oto-dun. White Spider. "His Pipe" "Circular Cloud" Tro he na he - He who Sprinkles the Sand. Outdoor group portrait of six figures before a tipi. Albumen stereoview. Minneapolis, Minnesota: Upton, n.d. Upton's printed publisher label with inscribed view title affixed to mount verso.
A compelling outdoor ethnographic field portrait capturing a line of six Dakota or Lakota men and women assembled in an agency or fort encampment. The period ink inscription identifies each of the figures, with a combination of transliterated and translated names.
The group stands closely side-by-side wrapped in heavy wool trade blankets. One wears a bear claw necklace, and two of his companions wear large medallions, one possibly a Presidential Peace medal. A large canvas tipi on crossed lodgepoles rises immediately behind them. In the foreground lies a substantial stack of cut firewood and timber, with a high board stockade fence bounding the compound in the background.
A compelling portrait of identified Northern Plains Indians.

Very good condition overall, with clear detail across the subjects. The yellow card mount remains solid, with only minor corner bumping, faint edge rubbing, and light age toning.
