A group of three (3) cabinet card photographs of Kiowa subjects, most notably resistance leader Lone Wolf the Younger. Views include:

1. Lone Wolf a Kiowa Chief. Chickasha, Indian Territory: William E. Irwin, circa 1900. Photographer's imprint to mount verso. Period title caption inscription to mount verso: "Lone Wolf a Kiowa Chief / Photo 1900." A modern inscription reads "(Delos Lone Wolf)".

A rare portrait of Lone Wolf the Younger (Gui-pah-gho the Younger, Elk Creek Lone Wolf, c. 1843-1923), a prominent figure in the Kiowa resistance to United States government influence on the Kiowa, Comanche, Plains Apache's (KCA) Reservation. He and his followers were often called "The Implacables" by Indian Agents for their determined opposition to United States interference. They refused to send their children to US government-run schools, resisted Christian missionaries, and opposed the Dawes Act enacted in 1887.

The portrait was taken circa 1900, during the initial proceedings of Lone Wolf's opposition to the Jerome Commission - a U.S. government commission that aimed to change the Medicine Lodge Treaty and gain Indian consent to open their reservation to white settlers and railroad development. Lone Wolf sought an injunction stopping the cession of land, and eventually appealed to the Supreme Court in the case Lone Wolf v. Hitchcock (187 U.S. 553, 1903). The court found that Congress could constitutionally break treaties with the tribe as it had plenary power over Indian policy.

2. Kiowa Indians drawing rations at the Commissary at Anadarko. Chickasha, Indian Territory: William E. Irwin, circa 1900. Photographer's imprint to mount verso. Period title caption pencil inscription to mount verso.

An outdoor view showing a madding crowd at the threshold of the Commissary. The figures wear blankets around their shoulders. Several other figures, including children and several dogs, loiter outside the building.

3. A Young Kiowa Warrier [sic]. Chickasha, Indian Territory: William E. Irwin, circa 1900. Photographer's imprint to mount verso. Period title caption inscription to mount verso.

A charming portrait of a young Kiowa child who was not pleased by the separation from his parents or the photographer's lens. He wears traditional fringed clothing and a bead shirt. Standing on the photographer's prop chair, he is captured crying and looking for an escape route - a familiar view to many hopeful parents at the studio.
