Officer's commission promoting Calvin Benjamin to Second Lieutenant, boldly signed by President John Tyler (1790-1862).
A fresh graduate of the Class of 1842 from the United States Military Academy at West Point, this commission promoted Calvin Benjamin (1818-1847) to second lieutenant of the 4th artillery on 1 July 1842. He would go on to serve at Fort Monroe, Virginia (1842-1844), on Coast Survey (1844-1845), in the military occupation of Texas (1845-1846), and finally in the Mexican-American War (1846-1847), where he would fall in the attack of Belen Cate on 13 September 1847.
