Memento Mori. Printed broadside with woodcut illustration. N.p.: N.p., circa 1865. 1 page, 10 1/2 x 14 1/2 in.
An attractive broadside dedicated to the late President Abraham Lincoln. Surrounded by a thick mourning border, the remembrance souvenir is titled "Momento Mori" above a portrait of Lincoln, with the dates of his birth and his assassination, followed by the eulogizing quote: "Most strict in his observance of what was Right - most rigid in his adherence to Justice."
The charming woodcut portrait of Lincoln has an appealing folk art quality. It was likely based on the photographic portrait taken by Anthony Berger on 9 February 1864 in Mathew Brady's studio in Washington, D.C.
