A haunting outdoor view depicting the hanging of Mary Surratt and three other conspirators in the Lincoln Assassination. The scene shows the gallows erected inside the Old Arsenal Penitentiary in Washington, D.C., on July 7, 1865. Four hooded figures can be seen hanging from the gallows, presumably shot just moments after the execution.
