Two issues of the New York Daily Tribune featuring the complete publication of the Emancipation Proclamation.

[Horace Greeley, editor]. New-York Daily Tribune. Vol. XXII, No. 6,785 & 6,786. New York, 1 & 3 January 1863. Each 8 pages, folio, 15 3/4 x 20 3/4 in. Disbound. Subscriber's "S. Falkenburgh" stamp to right margin.

A historic newspaper pair that features early reporting on the Emancipation Proclamation. The 1 January issue carries an announcement of the Proclamation on page 5, reassuring their readers, "Those who will lay down The Tribune tomorrow with disappointment, not finding the New Year's Proclamation of Freedom in it, may be assured of reading the paper before sunset. The subject was considered at a Cabinet meeting holden at the usual hour of 11, and adjourned before noon to-day." The following issue prints the entire Proclamation in large type and was signed in type by Abraham Lincoln on page 4. Additionally, the front pages of both issues feature extensive reporting of the war in Kentucky and Tennessee with maps.

An excellent pair.
