Publications: Mark Shaw. The John F. Kennedys: A Family Album. New York: Farrar, Straus, 1964, pp. 64-65.
A beautiful candid picture of John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy taken in 1959 at their home in Hyannis Port when he was serving as a Senator from Massachusetts, preparing for the 1960 Presidential election. The image was captured by their friend and frequent guest, photographer Mark Shaw. The family looks on appreciatively as a portrait of Kennedy is presented.
Notations to the verso suggest the print was used for publication, likely for Shaw's sentimental photographic book The John F. Kennedys.
After JFK's assassination, Shaw became protective of his Kennedy family images. He put together just 5 complete albums of the photographs used in the books to be given to four members of the Kennedy family and his personal physician, Dr. Max Jacobson. Shaw died unexpectedly in 1969, making Kennedy prints bearing his studio stamps quite rare.
