Outdoor albumen CDV with horizontal orientation. Salt Lake City, Utah Territory: Charles Roscoe Savage, ca late 1870s–early 1880s. Photographer's imprint to mount verso. Upper margin verso inscribed in pencil: "Brigham Young's Grave."

The detailed landscape view captures the elevated, enclosed burial plot of Brigham Young (1801–1877), the second President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the first Governor of Utah Territory. Young's grave is secured within a tall, gothic-spire wrought iron fence set atop a masonry foundation, situated on the hillside of the private Young family cemetery overlooking Salt Lake City. Visible in the background is the adjacent property residence framed by the Wasatch Mountain range.

Charles R. Savage was one of the foremost 19th-century photographers of the American Intermountain West, famous for his historic documentation of Promontory Point, the expansion of the transcontinental railroad, and iconic views across Utah Territory. Views documenting early LDS leadership landmarks by Savage are staple acquisitions for Western Americana and Mormon history collections.

Very good condition. The albumen print displays rich sepia tones and sharp detail with light, even age toning. The mount is solid with rounded corners, showing a small piece of collector tape residue to the upper verso not affecting the imprint.
