Sixth plate half-length studio portrait daguerreotype. N.p., n.d. Half leatherette case.
A fine sixth-plate daguerreotype depicting a distinguished hunter with his double-barreled shotgun. The bearded sitter, an archetypal nineteenth-century American sportsman, confronts the lens with composed self-possession. Particularly appealing is the unusual manner in which he presents his weapon, held barrel-down, an infrequently encountered variation within an otherwise familiar and much-collected photographic genre. A slender leather strap crossing the body likely relates to his powder horn.
