Sixth plate seated studio portrait daguerreotype of an identified child. N.p., n.d. Full leatherette case with motif of a woman gathering flowers into a basket while standing behind a fence with various plants growing around it. Includes period ink inscription to paper reading: "My Father, Robert Wil-/loughby Williams / 12/20/39/ R.W.W. II."
Seated in a chair with a small dog resting in his lap, the young Robert Willoughby Williams strokes his companion, while the attention of both is set alertly upon the photographer. Robert is dressed in an elegant suit with his hair neatly combed back, looking more like a miniature gentleman that a young boy.
This could be the photograph of Robert W. Williams (1845-1911) resident of Tallahassee, Florida. Registered in the 1900 census as a lawyer and farmer, he was the father of Robert W. Williams Jr. (1877-1971), potential author of the included provenance.
A charming photograph of a young gentleman and his companion.
