Superb collection of five (5) mid-19th-century photographic cases, three of which include images and were once in the personal collection of renowned case authority Paul K. Berg. The lot includes:

 

1. Half plate seated studio portrait ambrotype of a couple. Full thermoplastic case with the relief, "The Vision of Ezekiel" (Berg 1-9). Ex-Paul K. Berg Collection.

 

2. Ninth plate seated studio portrait daguerreotype of a woman. Full thermoplastic case with the relief, "Going to Market" (Berg 1-164). Ex-Paul K. Berg Collection. 

 

3. Ninth plate half-length studio portrait daguerreotype of a gentleman. Full red leather case with spine reading "MEMCRY'S LEAFLET" and lacquered covers. Front features an inset japanned papier-mâché panel, decorated with a mother-of-pearl and pewter inlay, titled "Flower Vase" (Berg 6-372). Ex-Paul K. Berg Collection. 

 

4. Full thermoplastic sixth plate case with the relief, "The Tight Cork" (Berg 1-109). 

 

5. Full thermoplastic quarter plate case by Littlefield, Parsons & Co. With a geometric floral relief (Berg 3-34).

Overall condition is very good to fine. The cases are remarkably well preserved overall, retaining sharp relief detailing, square unchipped corners, lustrous original surfaces, and tight, functional hinges throughout, with only minor, isolated edge wear and tiny interior hinge flecks consistent with age.The housed daguerreotype and ambrotype plates remain clear with typical light peripheral tarnish and surface dusting consistent with age.
