Stanley J. Morrow traveled directly with Brig. Gen. George Crook’s column during the closing weeks of the 1876 summer campaign against the Lakota Sioux and Northern Cheyenne following the Little Bighorn disaster. Surviving Crook's grueling "Horsemeat March," Morrow produced the only comprehensive photographic record of the expedition in the field, documenting the exhausted soldiers, the immediate aftermath of the engagement at Slim Buttes, and early reconnaissance views of the Custer battlefield. Original Morrow expedition views remain among the most historically significant and sought-after photographic artifacts of the Plains Indian Wars.

Good to very good condition overall. The albumen prints retain strong tonal separation and sharp detail, displaying typical light age-toning, faint peripheral foxing, and minor edge scuffing consistent with typical handling.
