Custom parlor frames uniting multiple generations in a single cohesive photographic display were high-status luxury commissions in the 1850s. Intact, undisturbed daguerreotype wall arrays comprising nine coordinated plates from a single family remain exceptionally rare survivors of the Daguerreian era.
Framed multi-plate gallery assemblage containing nine (9) original portrait daguerreotypes: one central quarter plate oval, four surrounding sixth plate ovals, and four smaller ninth plate ovals arranged symmetrically within a custom multi-aperture gilt mat. N.p., ca. early-to-mid 1850s. Housed in a substantial period deep-bevel molded walnut or stained hardwood wall frame.
A rare and visually striking antebellum family tree assemblage preserved in its original gallery wall presentation. The custom multi-aperture mat arranges three generations of a prominent American family around a central matriarch.
The center features a commanding quarter plate portrait of a dark-haired matriarch posed with a center part and wearing a tailored dark silk bodice with a checked collar bow. In the corner positions are four substantial sixth plate portraits capturing key adult members. Smaller oval plates in the interior capture female relatives across generations, including two elder grandmothers or aunts wearing traditional white day caps and lace collars, a young adolescent daughter, and a young girl at bottom center with ringleted hair and a broad white lace collar.

Very good condition overall. The nine silvered plates demonstrate consistent, sharp focal resolution and rich midtones throughout the varied sitters, exhibiting scattered pinpoint dusting, faint wiping marks, and light peripheral halo tarnish along the inner bevels of the mat apertures. The substantial period hardwood frame exhibits honest minor surface nicks, light veneer scuffs, and expected age wear.
