Sixth-plate studio portrait daguerreotype beneath a heavy octagonal brass mat with beveled inner border, housed without a preserver in a velvet-lined wood case frame. N.p., ca. mid-to-late 1840s. Housed in a leatherette case. Interior lid retains a purple silk facing pad.

A handsome bust-length portrait of a clean-shaven young gentleman identified as James Marble, posed facing slightly to the right while looking directly toward the camera. His dark hair is parted neatly and cut long over his ears. He is dressed in formal 1840s attire consisting of a dark tailored coat, an intricately patterned silk waistcoat, a crisp white shirt with an upturned collar, and a dark cravat tied in a broad bow.

James was the brother of Danforth "Dan" Marble (1810–1849), the nationally renowned stage actor and comedic interpreter of the stage Yankee, whose portrait is also offered in this sale.
