Small whole plate studio daguerreotype. N.p.: Dr. Mike Robinson, 2002. Presented in an archival cream multi-line mat within a rich, figured burl wood frame, approx. 8 1/4 x 9 3/4 in. Signed in the plate at lower right: "Michael Robinson / 2002."

This serene still life composition presents a botanical study arranged atop a rustic wooden plank table against a softly mottled background. At left, an enameled ceramic pitcher holds a delicate arrangement of cut daisies, spray blooms, and foliage; at right sits a square tapered planter nurturing a slender leafy plant. Robinson applied extraordinarily delicate, translucent hand-tinting throughout the composition, infusing soft blush pinks and pale yellows to the petals, gentle earthy greens to the stems and leaves, and subtle warm tones to the tabletop.

Dr. Mike Robinson (Century Darkroom, Toronto) is internationally renowned as a preeminent master practitioner, educator, and scholar of the daguerreotype process. His meticulously executed plates combine historic 19th-century chemical recipes and polishing techniques with contemporary artistic mastery, achieving depth, tonal gradation, and optical clarity that rival the finest historical practitioners of the medium.
