НЕ БАЛУИ! [Don't Fool Around!

Offset lithograph

[Moscow, Soviet Union]

Iskusstvo [Art Publishing House]

1947

Approx. 15 5/8 x 22 7/8 in., framed to 16 3/8 x 23 5/8 in.

A Soviet propaganda poster showing a handsome Soviet World War II veteran, a Hero of the Soviet Union and Order of the Patriotic War medals on his uniform, scolding a grotesquely rendered caricature of Uncle Sam. The Soviet soldier grasps a history of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 while the American personification holds a smoking torch in one hand and an Atom Bomb in the other.

Trained at VKhUTEIN [Higher Art and Technical Institute] in Moscow, Govorkov became a master of political and satirical poster. A veteran himself, having served in the Red Army during World War II, he received the Order of Glory, 1st Degree. In 1952, he served as the First Chairman of the Poster Section of the Moscow Union of Artists.
