Backplate stamped "Mauthe / Germany".
A well-maintained example of a clock case design attributed to Albert Kuenstler. Born in Germany, Kuenstler emigrated to New York to pursue a career in watch-making and jewelry. He eventually settled in Passaic, founded an eponymous firm with his son, and maintained the town municipal building's clock.
