Sixth plate half-length studio portrait tintype. N.p., circa 1861-1865. Half leatherette case.
Very pleasing portrait of a young Yankee infantryman wearing a state-issued jacket while seated in an ornate photographer's studio. The side table next to him is draped with a beautiful U.S. flag featuring a "Great Star" arrangement in the canton. While exact star arrangements of this type vary, this pattern typically features just 21 stars in the canton, thereby excluding the southern states that seceded from the Union.
