Ninth plate half-length studio portrait hand-gilt ambrotype. N.p., circa 1861-1865. Full leatherette case.
The seated Union infantryman, a corporal per his chevrons, presents to the camera an assortment of period weapons: in one hand, he holds an iconic Colt revolver, and, in the other, a sidehammer revolver, possibly Allen and Wheelock, while an antler-handled knife pokes from between the buttons of his vest. The plate itself is in excellent condition, with very good tone and clarity.
