A group of six original cartes-de-visite photographs depicting identified officers and enlisted men from the legendary 1st and 2nd United States Sharpshooters. The collection features highly desirable New England photographer imprints including Styles' of Burlington, Vermont, and W.G.C. Kimball of Concord, New Hampshire.

The lot includes: 

1. Edgar A. Beach, Company H, 2nd USSS: Seated portrait of an officer in a relaxed pose wearing a dark frock coat. Backmark: Styles' Vermont Gallery of Art, Burlington, Vermont. Verso bears a pencil inscription: "Edgar A. Beach / Co H 2nd USSS." Enlisting out of Vermont, Beach served through the 2nd USSS's brutal mid-war campaigns, maintaining discipline among the green-clad riflemen during heavy engagement at Gettysburg, the Wilderness and Spotsylvania.

2. Lt. Edward Dow, Company G, 2nd USSS: A sharp vignette studio portrait of a bearded officer. The reverse carries the pencil identification: "Lieut Dow / Lt. Edward Dow / Co G 2nd USSS," with an archival notation tracing the card to the Warren Fletcher Album. Dow served as an officer in Company G, a unit heavily recruited from Western mountain volunteers, and led sharpshooter detachments through severe skirmish actions during the Overland Campaign of 1864.

3. Lt. Harlan P. Page, 2nd USSS: An oval vignette portrait of an officer enclosed in an ornate graphic border design. The reverse features an obscured backmark beneath an old adhesive ghost, with clear period pencil notations reading, "Lt. Harlan P. Page / 2nd USSS" and "Lt. Paige." Commissioned as an officer in the 2nd USSS, Page was recognized for his tactical skill with the specialized target rifles and standard-issue Sharps firearms deployed to disrupt Confederate command structures.

4. Andrew J. Ingalls, Company H, 5th New Hampshire Infantry and Company G, 2nd USSS: Full-length standing studio portrait of a soldier leaning against a column, holding his top hat. Backmark: Kimball, Concord, New Hampshire. Verso features extensive pencil notes: "Andrew J. Ingalls / Co H 5th NHV / Co G 2nd USSS," along with the poignant campaign note: "Captured June 22, 1864 / Weldon Railroad, VA." Originally a member of the famous 5th New Hampshire, Ingalls transferred to the 2nd USSS; his wartime journey took a tragic turn during the Siege of Petersburg when he was captured in action during the chaotic Union defeat at the Weldon Railroad.

5. Capt. W.G.C. Kimball and Lt. T.H. Kimball, Company E, 1st USSS: An exceptional two-man full-length portrait depicting a seated officer with a sword alongside a standing officer wearing a slouch hat and an officer's sash. Backmark: W.G.C. Kimball, Concord, New Hampshire. The reverse includes dark period ink identification for both individuals: "Capt. W.G.C. Kimball / Lieut. T.H. Kimball / Co E 1st USSS." These two officers helped lead Company E, a unit heavily associated with New Hampshire volunteer marksmen. W.G.C. Kimball double-tasked as both a frontline officer and a prominent regional photographer, providing rare, intimate access to the unit's photographic legacy.

6. Col. Amos B. Jones, 1st and 2nd USSS: Vignette portrait of a young officer in a frock coat with shoulder straps. The reverse features detailed archival pencil tracking: "Col. A.B. Jones / From Album Page / Capt. Co E 1st USSS / Major 2nd USSS / Amos B. Jones / Colonel, AADC / Dept. of W.Va." Jones possessed a distinguished administrative and field career across both elite regiments, serving as a captain in the 1st USSS and a major in the 2nd USSS before his promotion to colonel as an aide-de-camp in the Department of West Virginia.

Overall very good. The albumen prints retain strong contrast and excellent detail, with minor handling wear typical of period album insertion. The mounts are structurally sound, showing light corner softening and expected reverse age-toning.
