A nice grouping of commemorative items from Stephen A. Douglas's run for president in 1860. Douglas, a senator from Illinois, was one of two nominees for the Democratic Party and lost to Republican Party candidate, Abraham Lincoln. Douglas had previously beaten Lincoln in the 1858 Senate election in Illinois after participating in seven debates together.
