Quarter plate daguerreotype. 1219

Double armed Confederate with D-Guard Bowie knife and a Model 1816/1822 musket.

His cap is quite interesting—the dark material thrown over the top may be a Havelock, used primarily during the earliest part of the war. Conversely it might also be a loose-fitting rain cover.

As per Tim P Mention the classic Southern narrow roller buckle belt

Confederate daguerreotypes are exceedingly rare, this being the finest example the authors have ever encountered. I have only seen perhaps 3 confederate dags and the others were not nice. ....treat as a one of a kind.  My cost $12,000 sold to Darville for something like $16,500 and bought back for $16,500  4-2018  valued at  $20,000  See MI Autumn 2018
