Julian Vannerson (ca. 1827-after 1875) was an American photographer first known for taking pictures of Native Americans who came to Washington, D.C., as part of treaty delegations in the 1850s. Once the Civil War began, he switched subjects and started taking photos of soldiers and officers, his most famous being this Lee portrait and one of J.E.B. Stuart ca. 1863.
