John. S. Mosby. Stuart's Cavalry in the Gettysburg Campaign. New York: Moffat, Yard & Company, 1908. 8vo. Frontispiece portrait of J.E.B. Stuart, portrait of Mosby, and folding map. Original publisher's navy cloth. FIRST EDITION.

INSCRIBED BY MOSBY TO CHARLES FRANCIS ADAMS, JR.: "'My life is like the prints which feet, / Have left on Tampa's desert strand.' / Presented to Colonel Chas F. Adams / by / Jno. S. Mosby".

A first edition of Mosby's history and defense of General J.E.B. Stuart's cavalry during the Gettysburg campaign. A fine presentation copy inscribed by John S. Mosby to Colonel Charles Francis Adams, Jr. (1836-1915). The great-grandson of John Adams and grandson of John Quincy Adams, he was a graduate of Harvard University and worked as a lawyer in Boston before he enlisted with the 1st Massachusetts Volunteer Cavalry in December 1861. Notably, especially in the presentation of this volume, he fought with distinction at the Battle of Gettysburg.
