Single shot percussion break open breechloading carbine with adjustable leaf rear sight, modified modern tall front sight blade and sling swivels mounted on the barrel band and in the toe of the stock, rather than a sling bar and ring. Reverse receiver with standard Mass Arms Co, Poultney & Trimble and Smith's Patent markings. Matching serial numbers on the barrel and receiver. The weak outline of a script cartouche is present on the left wrist. A well used but scarce Smith Carbine variant in the "Artillery" rather than "Cavalry" configuration. {ANTIQUE}

Fair to Good. Bore good, heavily frosted and moderately oxidized with decent rifling. Metal heavily oxidized with a mottled gray patina, scattered surface roughness and some pitting. Markings in metal remain mostly clear and visible, much weaker in wood. Mechanically functional action. Some minor wobble exists between the barrel and the receiver. Wood sanded with moderate wear and scattered bumps, dings and mars. Front sight blade is a somewhat crude modern replacement, likely for N-SSA shooting.
