Identified CDV of Miller G. Bell (d. 1881) of the famous 3rd New Jersey Cavalry, known as "The Butterflies". Dressed in his full "Hussar" style uniform and cape. The bottom has in period ink, "Respectfully MGB". On the reverse is the backmark of F.S. Keeler. Period ink on the bottom, "M G Bell, Clarksville / Hunterdon Co / New Jersey." Above that is inked, "Father of Meta / Bell Hope / dressed in Civil / War uniform Uncle Sam's / Butterflies". Bell enlisted Feb 9th, 1864 into Company E, 3rd New Jersey Cavalry. Mustered out 1865.
