Half plate ambrotype three-quarter length portrait of a Confederate officer. Full leatherette case with desirable dark green velvet pad.
A large and striking portrait of a Confederate officer. The bearded man looks directly at the photographer's lens, his shoulders squared and his legs crossed. He wears the gray double-breasted uniform with what appears to be yellow trim, his officer's sash tied at his waist and topped by a leather belt. He grasps an artillery saber in his hand.
Though the subject is unidentified, the image surfaced in Texas. While the officer's trim appears to be colorized yellow, suggesting affiliation with a cavalry unit, it may be another color that has faded. His artillery saber adds another element that complicates potential cavalry service. Further research may yield more definitive information.
A fine officer's portrait.
