Half plate hand-gilt ambrotype three-quarter length portrait. Full leatherette case.
Crystal-clear half plate ambrotype of an unidentified, bearded Confederate officer wearing a light-colored double-breasted frock coat with captain’s insignia clearly visible on the collar. He wears matching trousers and is posed holding a knight’s head militia sword in his right hand. At his waist, the officer has a sash, but no belt. His collar insignia, buttons, gallons, and sword hilt are enhanced with gold gilt paint.
A wonderful portrait in a rare, large format.
