A rare Washburn CDV, likely from the early stages of the war. The subject is a Confederate cavalry sergeant holding a slouch hat, his chevrons visible. Washburn, operating at 142 Canal until 1860, likely moved to 113 Canal Street in 1861. He would remain at 113 until 1877. The Union took control of New Orleans by May 1862, placing this portrait in the early war.
