Group of 2 ballots for the Wednesday, 6 November 1861, Confederate election.

Election ballot for the state of Virginia, 4 1/4 x 6 in., featuring Jefferson Davis for President and Alexander H. Stephens for Vice President, as well as additional candidates for statewide offices. Manuscript notation on either side of "For Congress," appears to be a name written in pencil, "William Sharp," perhaps the voter who submitted the ballot. Loss to bottom of ballot, toning, slight creasing.

Election ballot for the state of Tennessee, 2 3/4 x 4 1/2 in., also with Jefferson Davis and Alexander Stephens, and additional candidates for statewide office.

The November 1861 election was the first and only presidential election under the Confederate Constitution, and Jefferson Davis and Alexander Stephens ran unopposed.  Davis was elected to a six-year term which he served until the government was dissolved in May 1865.
